Ode to the Flamingo
Arise I say and take flight pink friend
so dignified in posture and appearance.
Heed not the taunts and derision
of lesser beings jealous interference.
Whether living or in plastic
makes no great difference to me
for one cannot deny you are a
bird of earnest and timeless beauty.
Grace and beauty never charmed a fool,
ignore their scorn and ridicule!
Go on fine bird, slurp up your bugs and fish
indulge yourself deeply in your fondest wish.
We mere humans will stand here and ponder
doomed to observe you from way far off yonder.
Where does the chilling winter send
man's lovely and eternal "second-best" friend?
We of liberated society will strive on to think
of ways to further honor the blessed bird in pink.
